his report summarizes the effects of the Northridge Earthquake, one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history. Immediately after the main shock, earthquake reconnaissance teams from EQE International and Geomatrix Consultants rushed to the affected region to evaluate the geologic effects of the earthquake and to assess the extent and causes of damage to structures and infrastructure, before critical evidence was removed. The information presented in this summary report was collected within one month after the earthquake. The statements and conclusions made are based strictly on our preliminary findings and assessments. Additional information and detailed investigation in the ensuing weeks may change some of our conclusions.
