MAYOR LENIENT
______
Engine Driver G. P. Cochran
was before the fire commission Saturday morning for the second time
on a charge of intoxication.
Mayor McAleer showed a lively interest in the

FIREMAN PLEADS GUILTY
______
Man Whom Mayor
Defended in
Former Intoxication Case Again
Falls From Grace Mayor
McAleer felt called upon to apologize to the fire commission
yesterday morning when G. P. Cochran, a hoseman in engine
company No. 3 was arraigned before that body on a charge of
intoxication to which he pleaded guilty.
Cochran had once before been before the
commission on the same charge, and although the members of the
commission favored dismissing Cochran from the service, the
mayor pleaded his cause and he was given another chance.
Christmas morning Cochran admitted he again became
intoxicated and was immediately suspended by the captain of the
company, who yesterday preferred charges against him. The
mayor gave Cochran a severe scoring for his second fall from
grace and declared he now was ready to abide by the decision of
the commission and would take no further interest in his
case. The commission prolonged the suspension for a week,
during which time the case will be considered. |
