in Harbor Area fire
A
Los Angeles city fire captain was crushed to death today when a 20-ton
crane fell on him during a Wilmington fire.
The 46-year-old captain was killed instantly when the
40-foot crane struck him across the back and knocked him face-down in the mud
during a 7:54 a.m. fire at the H and S salvage yard, 1261 N. Alameda St.
A second man, Eulas Wilson, 52, of Compton was injured
in the blaze and is in critical condition at Harbor General Hospital.
Wilson is an employee at the salvage yard.
Approximately 15 firemen fought the blaze, which was
possibly caused by an explosion, a fire department spokesman said.
Identification is being withheld pending notification
