1884 2nd Class D. Hayes 65'  Turntable Extension Ladder Truck

Hook & Ladder No. 1
Circa 1890

1884 - The Hayes Ladder Truck began service as the  Volunteer Company: 

           Vigilance Hook & Ladder No. 1
              at Aliso St. and Alameda.

Later the company name was changed to:

        Hook & Ladder Truck No. 1


 

              Hook & Ladder Truck No. 1
1893 - Hook & Ladder Truck No. 1 moved to:
                         Engine Co. 3
                   410 N. Main Street.

                  Truck Company A
1896 - Company name changed to Truck Co. A.

1901 - Truck A relocated to:
                        Engine Co. 4
                  Aliso St. near L.A. Street.

The Hayes Hook & Ladder remained in service as Truck A until 1904 when the company was closed and the firemen transferred to Water Tower No.1. 

The Hayes H&L was sold August 25, 1905 for $25. to D. F. Donegan, a local railroad contractor,  and has since disappeared from history.
